  • Qwixx

The first nominee for this year’s Spiel des Jahres award, a light but clever dice game by Steffen Benndorf. While some luck is obviously involved, there are also decisons to be made at every corner.

  • The Resistance

We find ourselves in a not-so-far future. The whole world is controlled by a totalitarian government. Only a small resistance group is desperately trying to free the people, but their time is running out: they have already been infiltrated.

  • Eldritch Horror

The stars have aligned again to allow the Great Old Ones, beings of such immense power that we are like insects to them, to stir in their slumber. Their cultists, madmen who would do anything for power, may be able to awaken them. Only a few people, those who stumbled upon their conspiracy by accident, may still be able to stop them. With no help from the rest of the world, for who would believe their tales, they must try to prevent the end of the world.

  • Eight-Minute Empire

Even the most insane, megalomanic despot will usually plan for a few months of war to conquer the whole world. Eight minutes is optimistic, to say the least. But that’s exactly what you’re going to do in Eight-Minute Empire: carve your name into the world, in mile high letter, in eight to twenty minutes. That’s shorter than your court-appointed painter will take to paint your regal countenance.

  • Kingdom Builder

In this year’s Spiel des Jahres, the King asks you to construct villages for his Kingdom. But his subjects are not always guided by sanity when they write their wishlist where the villages should go. Some of them have truly special needs, and then they keep contradicting each other. It’s enough to drive a city planer insane.

  • Green Deal

In 2050, running a global enterprise isn’t an easy job. Profit is still the top priority, of course, but because of government regulation and consumer behavior, you can no longer ignore sustainability issues. You either take care of the environment, of your employees and of society as a whole, or all the profits in the world won’t save your company. Balance between those concerns is not always easy, but if you run your company well it’s possible.

  • Andromeda

Anyone who grew up with a sibling will know the situation: there is ice cream, or cake, or something to be had, one of you had to split it and the other one would get first pick. As it turns out, that system not only works for ice cream but for exploring space ships as well, because that’s how you get your actions in Andromeda.

  • The Prodigals Club

Being rich, influential and groomed for political office, that must be such an incredibly boring life. Why is it that the lower classes get all the fun? Well, you’re not going to let them have it without you, and if you have to get rid of your wealth and your good reputation to join them, then so be it. That’s why you and some equally rich and dimwitted friends started the Prodigals Club, a contest of who can most effectively ruin their future.
