  • Euphoria: Build a Better Dystopia

“Build a Better Dystopia” is not a phrase you hear every day. Better for who, you will probably ask. Better for you, that’s who! Because who else matters? When you talk about creating a better Dystopia, that means better for you, and that means that you’re in charge of the whole thing. Can you get there?

  • The Agents

When a big secret agency shuts down, many shady people suddenly find themselves unemployed. The Agency was the biggest secret agency there was, and dealing with their leftover agents to make a profit is your job in The Agents.

  • Linja

A very short game, with rules that can be explained in about two minutes, materials you can carry in your coat pocket that still manages to look good and offers some depth? It does exist, and it’s called Linja.

  • Copycat

What comes out when you take two popular games, add some dashes of more games, and then run that mix through a cocktail shaker? That’s what Friedemann Friese wanted to know when he created Copycat from odds and ends of the Top Ten games on BoardGameGeek. And what came out … well, read for yourself.

  • Guildhall: Job Faire

Guildhall was a surprise release by Alderac in 2012, there were no announcements or anything, the game was just there. Now the expansion/sequel Job Faire is out and was much less secretive. I guess we could all see the expansion coming. Just like its predecessor, its better if you don’t think about the game to thematically, if the medieval guild system had really worked like this game we’d still only have five bricklayers in the world, and where would we be then, as a civilisation? We probably wouldn’t be hating our fellow man over a card game, that’s where. And that would mean we’re not playing Guildhall.

  • Machine Mind

In a near and sinister future, machine minds are taking control. Or is it the present already? Plain, old humans are mere pawns in their battle for world domination. Good for you that you aren’t one of them, isn’t it? You’re a Machine Mind, you’re in control. Or at least, you will be soon if you play your cards right.

  • Kingdom Builder

In this year’s Spiel des Jahres, the King asks you to construct villages for his Kingdom. But his subjects are not always guided by sanity when they write their wishlist where the villages should go. Some of them have truly special needs, and then they keep contradicting each other. It’s enough to drive a city planer insane.

  • Farmerama

Browser games being made into board games is still a very rare phenomenon. Besides Angry Birds, I can only think of this one: Farmerama. Are there reasons to be suspicious of Flash game adaptations?
