  • Race for the Galaxy

Not the newest game we reviewed recently, Race for the Galaxy was first published in 2007. It’s still a very good and popular game, though and with the new expansion Alien Artifacts coming later this year now is a good time to have a look at it.

  • Terra Mystica

Terra Mystica was the first game by German publisher Feuerland Spiele last year, and to say that it turned out popular is a bit of an understatement. It’s an entirely peaceful fantasy game about colonizing the world, there is no direct conflict, no destroying opposing settlements. But space is very limited and you’ll soon be standing on everyone’s feet. Even more so because the game punishes you for being far away from everyone else. So, did it deserve the rave reviews so far?

  • Imperial Settlers

Egyptians, Romans, the Japanese empire, Barbarians – lets call those last ones huns, they seem to fit best with the illustrations. Four empires that were widely feared by their neighbors. Lets forget, for a moment, that they were not only separated by a few thousand kilometers but also also by a few hundred years. Physics is a funny thing, anything can happen if you just get lost enough. That’s how colonists from these four empires end up on a mysterious island, where they all start building an outpost of their culture. It’s only a matter of time before they run out of space and into each other. Welcome to Imperial Settlers.

  • Mondo

Far off from the typical board game, Mondo works on a time limit, players play simultaneously and yet it comes along as not only a kid game but also a game for experienced players.

  • Raid & Trade

World War 3 has come and gone, and to everyone’s surprise we’re not extinct. But the planet is not a great place to live any more, except for those select few that secured a space in the Golden City, the last beacon of civilization in the world. All the wastelanders want to live there, and the players in Raid & Trade actually have the chance to achieve that dream, if they find the right mix between cooperation and ruthlessness.

  • Kingdom Builder

In this year’s Spiel des Jahres, the King asks you to construct villages for his Kingdom. But his subjects are not always guided by sanity when they write their wishlist where the villages should go. Some of them have truly special needs, and then they keep contradicting each other. It’s enough to drive a city planer insane.

  • Dixit 2

Sometimes, game expansion are best when they change nothing at all. If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it, as they say.
Is this nugget of wisdom true for Dixit 2?
