  • Ticket to Ride

Ticket to Ride (here in the German edition “Zug um Zug”) has become a classic in the few years since it was first released. It spawned many variants that play on different maps and add new mechanics.

  • Shakespeare: The Bard Game

Some games are not created to entertain boardgamers, they are made to add some spice to some other hobby – usually, those games are either trivia games or roll-and-move races. Shakespeare: The Bard Game goes beyond that and creates an actual game around those two elements.

  • Confetti

Simple doesn’t always mean boring, Some games have very, very simple rules and are still fun to play. So here we have a game that is based on the concept of confetti. Small, colourful paper discs for tossing in celebration purposes. Does it come under the “simple, but not boring” heading?

  • The Palaces of Carrara

The city of Carrara has been famous for its marble since Roman times. It’s been used, by people who can afford it, all over the empire. In The Palaces of Carrara, you don’t take it quite so far, the furthest your marble travels is about 100km down the coast. But you wouldn’t want it to go further, anyway, because that short distance already gives you enough to consider if you want to win in this game, because for a game of only about 60 minutes, it sure keeps you busy.

  • Mundus Novus

Mundus Novus is, despite its trade with the new world theme, a light set collection game with a complex(ish) trading mechanic and a bit of card based progress.

  • Wrong Chemistry

Something is wrong with Wrong Chemistry, and it’s not the chemistry. It’s about mad scientists, and not a single mention of world domination. I think these guys just don’t want us to know what they’re planning. But until we find out, lets go build some atoms!

  • Québec

Québec is not only a city in Canada any more, it is now also a game about that city. But where games with city names are often variants of other games with some new pictures, Québec introduces new mechanics and really invents a new game, not just renames it.

  • Council of Four

Some countries just don’t manage to form a stable government, but the unnamed kingdom of Council of Four is ridiculous even by those standards. Influential merchants, the players, exchange councilmen in any way that best serves their interest. If the current council can’t be bullied into writing a business permit, they just replace them. And whoever does that best wins the game.
