  • Palazzo

Palazzo is a fun, quick auctioning game with a slightly mathy scoring system. It has a theme – or so I’m told – something about building houses in Florence, but it doesn’t really matter much.

  • T.I.M.E. Stories

Consumable games, games that you play a number of times and then they are over for you, are a new thing. Pioneered by Risk Legacy, the idea has spread. More games are coming with the Legacy system, but that’s not the only way to make a game “expire”. T.I.M.E. Stories tries a different approach, one that leaves the game material unchanged and changes what you know instead.

  • Prêt-à-Porter

The world of fashion is not a usual setting for boardgames, but Prêt-à-Porter nails it on the first try. It was nominated for Polish Game of the Year this year, and this year the whole world can enjoy the English edition.

  • Splendor

Collecting gems to buy cards that are worth gems, making it easier to buy more cards. When thus summarized, Spiel des Jahres nominee Splendor doesn’t sound like much. But once you start playing, you will realize that games don’t have to sound complicated to draw you in, make you play again and again, try new approaches to outsmart your opponents. Because playing Splendor is not a difficult, but getting what you want with your opponents interfering is.

  • Burger Up

Warning! Do not read this review while hungry. You’re about to read a many words about burgers, which will make you hungry to play Burger Up, but also to go out and eat at that grass-fed beef only burger place across town.

  • MafiaDollar

Times were hard during the prohibition, and you couldn’t even take a drink to make them easier. Except if you were the criminal element, then you had all the booze you could drink with enough left to turn a huge profit. And gambling and cigars on the side, too. Or you end up deep in debt with the other mobsters calling for your head.

  • Thunderstone: Starter Set

How often has this happened to you? You are peacefully tending to your farm, and suddenly a hole in the ground opens up and monsters come streaming out. Next you know, a bunch of heroes are charging you a ridiculous fee to take care of the problem and then make off with the monsters’ treasures as well. Being a Villager in Thunderstone is little fun. But you, you’re one of those heroes.

  • Ghost Stories

Do you like the Chinese Ghost Story movies? How about cooperative games? Now roll this to things into one, how does that sound? Ghost Stories is exactly that: you defend a small village from the forces of Wu-Feng who is about to rise from the dead.
